It was Hofer (the name that Aldi goes by here in Austria) who, with Domäne Wachau, brought an excellent white wine series (“light yellow with green reflections”) to the nation’s supermarket shelves. Four times a year, they surprise us with a different variety. Always a Grüner Veltliner, always featuring a pair of fish on the label we created (starting with a pike and a trout, followed by catfish, pikeperch, huchen, sturgeon and various other Danube fish), always of the best quality, always an ideal accompaniment to food. But, in equal measure, great on its own.
